about
Original Liner Notes:

Inspiration and Intention...
Inspired by the earthy trance grooves of Moroocco, Africa, South America, and honoring the spirit of indigenous cultures and their music, Hamsa Lila, through Acoustic Trance music , bringsthese old healing and teachings of the land of the world in the form of a new creative musical ritual.

The Sounds...
The camel-skinned Sintir of the Gnawa people blends with teh Bass Guimbri from Jajouka, West African drumming, ethereal flutes of silver, wood, and bamboo, and the soul-waking sounds of the Saxaphone. Male calls of song with arabic stylings and group responses are brought together with female calls, producing an atmosphere of euphoria.

The Meaning...
Hamsa: an old amulet used throughout the Middle-East for protection...the healing hand...the number five. In ancient India, the Hamsa were Yogis who engaged in studying the Vedas.

Lila: a night ritual of the Gnawa people of Morocco. This ceremony follows a sensory path through the night, unifying the magic realms of sound, smells, and movement. In Sanskrit, Lilah is defined as the divine and cosmic play.

Special Thanks to:
The Master Musicians of Jojouka 1973, The Casbah, Joel Rubiner and Yassir Chadley - the deliverers of the Guimbri and Sintir, respectively. DJ spacecraft One for the remix, all of the dancers and visual artists, especially Suki whose photos help bring it all down and lifts us all up!

***This music was recorded on the third and tenth day we met together!

The energy, spirit, and intention of this collaboration is breathing and life-giving and for this we give thanks. May it olny be the beginning!
